Textile fabrics having no particular direction cannot be tested for its strength on a tensile tester; a multi directional force generated by hydro static pressure is applied on fabric to check the strength of that fabric, this phenomenon is called bursting strength testing.

One of the most common measures of the quality of a fabric is the number of threads per unit length in both the warp and weft directions. In this apparatus, a motorized traveling microscope is used for viewing the weave of the fabric under test.
